The first meeting of the ISIF Open Source Tracking and Estimation Working Group (OSTEWG) was held on 4th July at the Fusion 2019 conference in Ottawa.
40 people attended the working group meeting from across the academic and industrial community. The key output of the meeting was the selection of a Focus Topic for this year’s collaborative work. After presenting three candidate challenges supported by datasets and Stone Soup Jupyter notebooks, the topic of Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) was chosen by majority vote. This simulated WAMI data set exhibits an interesting set of technical challenges such as very large numbers of targets, obscuration resulting in missed detections and some challenging association problems. This means that this data set and the challenges it contains will form the centre of gravity of coherent collaborative activity across the fusion community; likely to result in new algorithms, models and metrics.
